The Junior-Senior Promenade - popularly known as the "JS Prom" - is one of the most distinct highlights of a high school student's life, especially among the seniors. Usually held during the last few days of the school year, juniors and seniors alike are required to wear semi formal or formal attire and could dance and socialize with each other.
The JS prom is like a farewell party for seniors.
It is among the last times that they can bond with their friends and peers before they join the work force or separate from each other to study in different and distant colleges.
The event is more of an appetizer for juniors though -a time when they will realize how much they're going to miss high school when they're already graduating seniors.
But the prom hides a deep, dark secret.
Because high school students are under the watchful eyes of their peers, peer pressure is far from uncommon.
It is a reality that some high school students face and the prom is just another event that prying eyes and itchy mouths are dying to criticize another's fashions wear. In the real world, the "populars" are more likely to bully the outfits of the "unpopulars" just like in the movies. Fortunately, the not-so-popular students can get away from the view of the bullies' critical eyes by wearing respectable but fashionable clothes.
First of all, both men and women should consider the color of their skin tone and not their favorite color in choosing the perfect dresses and tuxedo suits.
Light colors don't go with light skin tones. Dark-colored formal wear on the other hand go with them - as dark colors accentuate their fair skin. Dark-skinned men and women can highlight their skin by wearing light-colored clothes; not necessarily bright though as these may look too flashy.
Another great tip that juniors and seniors can stick to is pick out a cut that compliments their figures; this most especially applies to women.
Men don't need to show off their figure and basically have to wear mens formal suit that have similar cuts. Women, with their varying curves and forms, have to hide their flaws and show off their assets.
Empire style dresses are perfect for curvy women who have big busts and wide tummies. This is because empire cuts hide the bulges in their tummies without having to hide their asset - flattering bust lines. This design could also work with petite and small-framed women for as long as it fits them more in the stomach to show off their thin silhouettes. Aside from the empire style, there are a lot of styles which they can choose from.
The rule that should only be taken in mind is "hide the bad and flatter the good.
"
After having chosen the perfect formal apparel, the best accessory any high school student can take to the prom is none other than confidence.
Women who feel like they're wearing special dresses and men in their black bow tie or tuxedos can easily gather such confidence. But if bullying does persist, they really shouldn't sulk. College is drawing near anyway where people care less of each other and learn to be happy with themselves.
